He has a great record. He’s a good attraction, Mourinho, regarding recruitment and players wanting to come and play for Spurs.“The stadium is magnificent, training ground, so there will be many, many players out there who will want to sign.“Someone with that experience, to have a bit of adversity with the injuries and be up against it, if there’s ever a manager that can deal with these problems then it’s Jose Mourinho.”Ian Tuckey3 Mar 2020, 7:27 pmWINKS’ NOD TO JOSEHarry Winks claims Jose Mourinho was right to say Spurs should be much tougher after Wolves leapfrogged them into sixth place with Sunday’s 3-2 win.Tottenham midfielder Winks said: “What he said to us in the dressing room was spot on.“We are a very good side and when we play our football and defend with aggression, but there were moments in the transition on the counter-attack where we could have been more cute and been more like a winning team. “If we stop the counter-attacks earlier, then we come away with the win.”Ian Tuckey3 Mar 2020, 6:23 pmICC WOETop Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham will miss out on pre-season games in Asia after the International Champions Cup fell victim to the coronavirus. This summer’s tournament is set to be smaller, with matches just in Europe, North America and Australia. The three Premier League giants took part in the popular competition last year, with 18-year-old striker Mason Greenwood making his United breakthrough. But the BBC say ICC organisers believe there is too much uncertainty over the virus outbreak to include games in Asia this time around. The schedule has yet to be finalised but matches set for the USA are unlikely to be affected. A spokesman for ICC promoter Relevant Sports told the BBC: “The health and safety of fans, clubs, players, staff and partners are our top priority. “Asia remains a key component of our global growth strategy and we look forward to hosting matches in the market in the near future.”Alex Terrell3 Mar 2020, 5:16 pmMOURINHO ON PARROTTThere were calls for Mourinho to play the Irish teenager during the home defeat to Wolves. The Portuguese said: “He is not ready. “He is a good kid, a good talent, a kid we want to help, a kid who needs help outside the pitch, we are going to take care of and he is going to have his real opportunity in the right moment.”Jack Figg2 Mar 2020, 2:41 pmPROUD BUT DOWNHarry Winks admits it was a proud day to captain his boyhood club vs Wolves but largely remains disappointed following the poor result. He said: “It was a really proud day for me and my family to captain Spurs, but it does take away the special honour when you lose the game.” Jack Figg2 Mar 2020, 2:20 pmDIDN’T SEE THAT COMINGFormer boss Andre Villa-Boas has the highest win rate of Spurs manager in the Premier League despite getting sacked after 18 months.Jack Figg2 Mar 2020, 2:09 pmIN THE RECORD BOOKSTottenham’s new man has certainly got off to a bright start. 🇧🇪 🎉 Happy birthday, @AlderweireldTob #THFC ⚪️ #COYS pic.twitter.com/qRgabI2Aq1— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) March 2, 2020Alex Terrell2 Mar 2020, 11:19 amSPURS FIXTURESHere are Tottenham’s upcoming games.Weds Mar 4: Norwich (H) – PLSat Mar 7: Burnley (A) – PLTues Mar 10: RB Leipzig (A) – CLSun Mar 15: Man Utd (H) – PLFri Mar 20: West Ham (H) – PLJake Lambourne2 Mar 2020, 10:16 amSPURRED ONBREAKING: Anthony Joshua will fight Kubrat Pulev at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20.The Brit world champion will defend his IBF, WBA and WBO belts against the Bulgarian bruiser.Pulev said: “I am happy to have the opportunity to show the world how strong I really am.”Jake Lambourne2 Mar 2020, 9:49 amMOU TO COMEJose Mourinho has claimed that Moussa Sissoko is on course to return to action within the next month. The French midfielder hasn’t played since injuring his ankle on New Year’s Day.Mourinho said: “I think Moussa will give us some matches this season. He went outside, started a little bit. “Next week we’ll have a different phase of his recovery. In normal conditions, we’re going to have him back by end of March or beginning of April.”Jake Lambourne2 Mar 2020, 9:19 amMAINE ROADFormer Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas has questioned Jose Mourinho’s to start Eric Dier at centre-back to face Wolves.Speaking on Match of the Day 2, he said:”I’m not sure if Jose Mourinho has watched Toby Alderweireld over the last three years, but as a centre half with the ball at his feet, there aren’t many more comfortable or with a better passing range than Toby Alderweireld.“I get his method, pace out wide and if he wanted someone who could come out with the ball, but you have got one of the best centre halves at doing that.“I am happy to reserve judgement on Jose until the start of next season, because I want to see certain players leave and other players come in.“But at the minute I am worried at what I am seeing in terms of the performances.”Jake Lambourne2 Mar 2020, 8:49 amDIER MOVEJose Mourinho has explained why he started central midfielder Eric Dier at the back instead of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. The decision to name him in the line-up caused confusion amongst Spurs fans, as their side lost 3-2 against Wolves on Sunday. He said: “Eric [Dier] played very well. I think Eric played very well. So I think if Eric’s performance was not as good I would understand the question but I think it was very good.“The thinking was simple, the thinking was Davinson [Sanchez] and [Japhet] Tanganga are the two fastest central defenders that we have.“Eric is the one who by nature is a midfield player so playing in the middle between those centre backs is the one who is normally more comfortable to step up, he’s more comfortable with reading the game and passing.”Jake Lambourne2 Mar 2020, 8:19 amDECISION DAYSpurs target Dayot Upamecano says he will not decide on his future until the end of the season.Arsenal reportedly lead the £52m race for the RB Leipzig star. However, the French defender was quoted by Football.London as saying: “I feel very comfortable in Leipzig. It is my duty to continue to train well and play my games.“Even if I know that there are clubs that want me, I stay on the ground with both feet, that’s for sure.“We will discuss my future with my advisors and my family at the end of the season.“Naturally [I am honoured to be linked to clubs like Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal].“But as I said, I’m in Leipzig and I want to achieve my goals with the club.“I don’t feel like talking about anything else right now. I want to end the season with Leipzig in the best possible way and nothing else.”Sam Street2 Mar 2020, 7:29 amSMALL CHANGEJose Mourinho is seeking a summer reunion with Chris Smalling as he looks to strengthen Spurs’ backline. The on-loan Man Utd star, 30, has impressed at Roma and previously played some of his best football under the Special One with the Red Devils. And Tuttosport believe Spurs currentlly head the Italian side in the queue for the centre-back, who would cost around £17m.Tottenham appear in need of reinforcements at the back after a 3-2 humbling at home to Wolves yesterday.Joshua Jones2 Mar 2020, 6:18 amMORNING SPURS FANSTottenham’s top four hopes are fading by the week after they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday.Jose Mourinho’s men were 2-1 up at half-time thanks to goals from Steven Bergwijn and Serge Aurier. However, the visitors fired back through Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez, resulting in Wolves leapfrogging Spurs in the table.Mourinho blamed the defeat on “mentality mistakes” and has demanded his side to be more “ruthless” in their pursuit of Champions League football. The North Londoners are now five points off Chelsea with ten games remaining. And they will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Norwich in the FA Cup.Hugo Lloris could miss out after injury ruled him out of the Wolves match. And reports claim Spurs are already plotting a move for a new goalkeeper this summer. It’s believed Watford veteran Ben Foster is in Mourinho’s sights. And he reckons the 36-year-old can push Lloris for the No1 shirt despite his age.Anthony Chapman2 Mar 2020, 9:57 pmKANE COMEBACKEngland and Tottenham striker Harry Kane is making good progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury which threatend to rule him out for the rest of the season AND Euro 2020.There is now a possibility of Kane featuring before the end of the season, Mourinho said: “I would say he is a little bit ahead… Just speculating a bit, the feelings are good… everything is going well.“Hopefully the feeling is right and he can help us in the last few games of the season.”England boss Gareth Southgate will also be keeping an eye on the sttikers progression, as he will look to include the captain in the team for this summers UEFA Euros.Anthony Chapman2 Mar 2020, 9:00 pmHONESTY’S THE BEST POLICYSpurs midfielder Harry winks says “honest conversation” with boss José Mourinho has helped turn his form around. The English midfielder has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot so far during the early stages of Mourinho’s reign.winks said: “I had an honest chat with the manager and he told me what he believed I needed to do.“It was just an honest conversation, which I respect massively.”Winks has taken it all on board and said: “I have been playing more and it is important that I keep those levels and intensity becasue I want to stay in the team.”Anthony Chapman2 Mar 2020, 7:51 pmREUNIONTottenham boss José Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing Chris Smalling, who he previosuly managed at Manchester United.Smalling has spent the season in the Italian capital with Serie A side Roma where he has been a regular feature, and has been impressive.According to Calciomercato, Roma are desperately trying to sign the English defender as they fear Tottenham could swoop in.If the 30-year-old does join Tottenham, it will be a reunion with old boss Mourinho.Roma remain just shy of United’s £17m demand.Anthony Chapman2 Mar 2020, 7:18 pmEMIL FORSPURSAccording to Sports Bild, 28-year-old Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg has been offered to Tottenham.Forsberg has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season for German side RB Leipzig scoring nine, whilst also getting four assists to his name.José Mourinho is keen to add to his side this summer as it is notoriously difficult to complete a squad overhaul midway through a campaign in the January transfer window. It would take around £17m to bring him to North London and the Swedish international’s possible arrival could indicate a departure from Tottenham.Anthony Chapman2 Mar 2020, 5:59 pmZERO TO HEROAhead of today’s clash with Wolves, SunSport’s Tottenham man Paul Jiggins sat down with Toby Alderweireld. The Spurs defender admits he does not see himself as a star – although jubilant schoolchildren proved otherwise. He said: “For me it is still strange to see people react like that when they see me.“I do not see myself as a big star or anything like that.“It’s strange and nice when people are always happy to see you.“I am no big deal.
